Our Experience

Let me start by saying I was very happy to be given this curriculum to review. I have been in love with French language and culture since college. I purchased a few French for Kids books several years ago, but sadly my kids were just never interested. When I received the Whistlefritz Educator’s French Collection I was pleasantly surprised with the material, and had high hopes that my kids would actually be open to learning this wonderful language. The Whistlefritz Educator’s French Collection is a thorough curriculum that includes videos, music, and lesson plans for 45 weeks! We are on our 3rd week of using this curriculum, and my kids love it!

The Whistlefritz Educator’s French Collection is designed for Pre-K/ Early Elementary which is perfect for my 5 year old. Surprisingly, my 3 year old has also enjoyed learning and has picked up a couple of French greetings. Both of my children love to greet their grandmother with a “bonjour” or “coucou”. Though we are still in the early weeks, it has been such a pleasure to watch them get excited about a new language.

We have been following the Home Educator’s Guide, so in the first three weeks we have focused mainly on the videos and music. This is such a fun (and low pressure) way to introduce children to a new language. It was also a great refresher for me, because I was able to translate some of what was happening in the videos and the songs. My only critique would be that although my kids loved the videos, they ran a little too long for their attention span. The videos are about 45 minutes. We found that it worked better for us if we split the videos in 20 minute increments. That aside, the videos are great!

We are very excited to dive into the Lesson Plan for Kids book as we look forward to week 4, and get more into the activities.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am so pleased with the Whistlefritz Educator’s French Collection. I love how fun and creative the material is presented. This is a curriculum that knows its audience and makes learning a new language exciting. I would absolutely recommend the Whistlefritz Educator’s French Collection to anyone that would like to teach French to their children.
