Screen time gets a bad wrap, but sometimes it can be beneficial and even educational. There are so many amazing educational mobile apps available for early learners. Check out my top 4 learning apps for early learners below.

Hooked on Phonics
There’s a reason why Hooked on Phonics has been in business since the 1980s. We love Hooked on Phonics and have been using their Pre-Reader 5-Practice Pack Bundle for several months. In addition to the physical resources that Hooked on Phonics offers, they have an amazing mobile app as well!
The app is available on iOS, Google Play, Amazon Apps, and on Desktop. The Hooked on Phonics app is made for learners ages 3-7 and features over 250 songs, videos, games, and ebooks. The lessons also correlate with the lessons from the physical resources, which helps to reinforce important concepts.
The Hooked on Phonics app is $6.99 per month, however they do offer a free 7-day trial so that you can try it out before committing to making a purchase.
Duo ABC
The Duo ABC mobile app is incredibly impressive. This free app offers a fun and engaging learning experience that your child will love. It is available on iOS and Android. The app is designed for learners from preschool to first grade and features interactive stories as well as over 700 hands-on lessons.
Each Duo ABC lesson is built to feel like a game which makes the learning feel informal and fun. My video game loving 5 year old will spend 30-45 minutes on the app at a time, which has made it a welcome addition to our homeschool days.
New lessons are constantly added to the Duo ABC app, which keeps it fresh and exciting for young learners. This is a free app that offers such a phenomenal learning experience that any child will love!
PBS Kids Games
PBS Kids Games is another great learning app that is available for free. The app features well over 200 educational games with characters from PBS shows. It is designed for children ages 3-8 and has games covering multiple subjects to encourage early learning.
The PBS Kids Games App also adds new games each week, so your child will never get bored. We love the app because we’re able to play fun educational games with some of our favorite characters from Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger, and Wild Kratts. Overall, it is a well put together mobile app and it is so awesome that it is completely free.
ABC Mouse
ABC Mouse is another staple in our home. It is an incredible program that is used by more than 70,000 schools and half of the public libraries in the country. We have used ABC Mouse on the computer and on the mobile app and absolutely love it. There is so much to do on the app that each experience with it feels fun and exciting. During our homeschool lesson, we stay on the Learning Path which features more structured and purposeful learning activities. Children are able to track their progress on the Learning Path in a way that keeps them motivated to continue on with each lesson.
In addition to the Learning Path, the ABC Mouse App features activities covering all academic subjects. It is designed for children ages 2-8 and as the app advertises, it helps to accelerate the development of early literacy skills and math skills. An ABC Mouse subscription is $12.99/month or $59.99/yr, which in my opinion is well worth it (especially for homeschooling families).
