What’s Included?
The I Create Art Young Artist Box includes 2 lessons, art supplies, and access to instructional videos online. This kit is appropriate for children ages 3-6. The art supplies that accompany the box are oil pastels, watercolor paints, 2 paint brushes, and a sharpie marker. We received the Flower and Tiger Box, so our kit featured flower and tiger outlines, as well as educational materials about each subject. The I Create Art Young Artist Box: Flower and Tiger is $37.
Our Experience
The I Create Art Young Artist Box was a great introduction into art for my 3 and 5 year old. We have many unstructured arts and crafts days in our homeschool. However, this was the first time that they were tasked with intentionally creating a specific piece of art. The pictures of the flowers and tigers were bright and interesting to view. We also enjoyed learning more about Tigers and Flowers through the information included with the kit. The art supplies are well made, with rich oil pastel pigments and watercolors.
The box also gives access to online instructional videos. We watched the video made to show children how to draw flowers in a vase first with a permanent marker, then how to color it in with oil pastels. The instructional video honestly did not go over well with my kids. It didn’t take long for them to get frustrated and discouraged because their drawing was nothing like what they were trying to emulate. I soon stopped the video, and instead presented the pictures of flowers included with the I Create Young Artist Box, and told them to have fun and do their best. They drew their own interpretation of flowers in a vase and loved it. I loved how focused they were on creating their own works of art.
Final Thoughts
Overall, we were pleased with the I Create Art Young Artist Box: Flower and Tiger. We will continue to use the materials received with the box for other structured art projects. If you are interested in introducing your child to art, I would definitely recommend checking I Create Art out!
